ILD® has been the leading provider of roofing and waterproofing membrane integrity testing in North America since 2001. ILD®’s proprietary Electric Field Vector Mapping (EFVM®) testing method was developed in Germany in the early 1990’s, and since then has expanded to over 20 countries and tested over 250 million sq.ft. of waterproofing and roofing membrane.
EFVM® is a non-destructive, low-voltage test method that creates an electrical potential difference between a non-conductive membrane surface and conductive substrate. Non-conductive substrates can be tested using patented Vector Mapping Conductive Mediums. EFVM® has the ability to find pinhole size punctures in waterproofing and can be used on horizontal and vertical surfaces, and can also read through overburden such as green roofs. ILD® is an independent testing agency, without affiliation to waterproofing or roofing consultants, contractors, or membrane manufacturers. ILD® offers three categories of testing, all administered by trained and certified technicians.
- Membrane Integrity Testing: Testing of new construction, typically done immediately after membrane installation to ensure no damage has been caused by construction activities.
- Troubleshooting: Testing for active leaks, which is especially useful when the membrane is buried or covered with overburden.
- Maintenance Testing: Periodic testing, completed every couple of years to find pinhole breaches. Technicians also complete a visual inspection on problematic areas that are not breaches.
